Hop-a-long is one of my heart goats. She needed some extra attention when we brought her to the herd in 2022 after being such a heavy producer as a first freshener and she's taught me patience. Good things are worth waiting for. In 2024 she blessed us with not one but two EXCEPTIONAL daughters sired by Southern Grace Jukebox *B and they are BOTH staying in the herd. Hop-a-long has one of the best overall mammary systems in the herd and she milks down to nothing every time with the will to milk day in and day out regardlessof heat or stage in lactation. We're happy to report that this last year she hasn't needed any additional supplements to keep her in great condition either, she gets fed the same as the rest of the herd and is now thriving as a four year old. 

We have talked to a few with much more experience and have come to the conclusion that Hop-a-long likely milked so heavy as a young growing doe that it was hard on her structurally as it depleted her calcium stores. This is why we gave her extra time to regain condition before breeding. She'll never be a show doe and she will also probably never leave Harvest Moon. Her LA scores show this, as a yearling she was VEVE 87 and as a 3 year old she scored an AEVE 85. So far her daughters appear to have very strong feet and pasterns.

If there was a first freshener to be excited about it's this one right here. Kissimmee freshened with ease and came right on to the milk stand to go to work. Just barely missing the cutoff for the elite list in 2024 Production evaluations at 93% we can't wait for her second freshening. She is bred to one of our Hunka-Fun sons that adds in some genetics from Jukebox on the dams side.

Satin was a few years old when she came to us. She didn’t have ideal management in those growing years and is a fairly small girl though still within the breed standard. Where she lacks in size she makes up for in rear width and has a really nice mammary system. Unfortunately she’s just had a rough life. Survived a donkey attack during her 2021 pregnancy and started showing symptoms of simple squamous carcinoma. We treated her symptoms for  quite a few years but her condition continued to decline and we decided in the spring of 2025 it would be best for her hygiene and condition to put her down before summer. She’ll forever be remembered here at Harvest Moon. We had hoped for one final daughter but it just wasn’t in the cards.
